BREAKING: Michael Avenatti Charged With Extortion and Wire Fraud

Michael Avenatti was a happy camper this week after a federal court case that was charging famed lawyer Michael Avenatti – who once represented Stormy Daniels in her case against President Trump – with conspiring to extort millions from Nike was rewritten in order to drop the two counts of conspiracy charges.

Now instead of the conspiracy charges, he’s being charged with wire fraud and extortion. Federal prosecutors report that Avenatti stole millions of dollars from clients.

According to Fox News,

The indictment, returned Wednesday in Manhattan federal court, was renewed to add an honest services wire fraud charge, according to the court document.

Avenatti has pleaded not guilty to charges that he committed extortion by threatening to publicly reveal Nike’s alleged unsavory dealings in college athletics if he wasn’t paid up to $25 million.

Avenatti also faces fraud charges in Los Angeles federal court and in a separate New York case after he was charged with cheating porn star Stormy Daniels of book deal income. Avenatti once represented Daniels over a nondisclosure deal regarding an alleged affair with President Trump.

Avenatti tweeted on Wednesday, “I am extremely pleased that the two counts alleging I engaged in a conspiracy against Nike have just been dismissed by Trump’s DOJ. I expect to be fully exonerated when it is all said and done.”

The truth of the matter is that Michael Avenatti is a crooked lawyer and this isn’t the first time he’s been in trouble, nor will it be the last time.

As Matt Vespa has written, Avenatti was ordered by a judge to pay child support payments that he neglected to make. He also fell behind on rent payments, was evicted from his law offices and slapped with a multi-million dollar judgment from a former colleague. Last November, Avenatti was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic abuse, but the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute. (TownHall)
