CCTV Footage Of Broward Sheriffs Outside Of The School During Shooting Released

Just released CCTV footage shows Broward Sheriff deputy Scot Peterson standing outside during an active shooting for nearly 30 minutes.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office released the video yesterday where we see him and an unidentified staff member rushing toward the 1200 building via a car, he approaches, draws his weapon, and stands outside.

As reported by Daily Mail:

During much of the shooting, the camera’s view of Peterson is blocked by a light pole but parts of him occasionally appear. He never entered the building.

Sheriff Scott Israel blasted Peterson eight days after the shooting, saying the deputy should have ‘went in, addressed the killer, killed the killer,’ saying the apparent inaction left him ‘devastated. Sick to my stomach. There are no words.’

Peterson, 54, was branded a coward by President Donald Trump and slammed by surviving students. He opted to retire rather than accept a suspension, but he is still being investigated by internal affairs.

Peterson has denied wrongdoing. In a statement issued through his lawyer shortly after his retirement, he said he thought the shots were being fired from outside the school. The video released Thursday did not have sound.

But in radio transmissions released last week it appears the 32-year veteran deputy knew almost immediately they were coming from inside the freshman building.

Nobody headed inside until 11 minutes after the first shots rang out, by which time shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz had ditched his weapon and fled while critically injured victims had been bleeding out.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is reviewing the police response.

Cruz, 19, faces 34 murder and attempted murder charges in the attack and a judge entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf Wednesday as students across the nation walked out of school to protest gun violence.

His attorney, Assistant Public Defender Melisa McNeill, reiterated that Cruz would plead guilty if prosecutors waived the death penalty, which they refused to do.
