Former Subway Spokesman Jared Using Technicality For Hopeful Prison Release

Jared Fogle captured the hearts and minds of everyone when he was presented as the new spokesman the Subway chain of restaurants, claiming he lost over 200lbs by following a formulated “Subway Diet”.

It’s also what put Subway on the playing table if you ask. Subway was by no means suffering but this particular campaign really solidified their place in America.

Then… in 2015, it turned out he allegedly did some rather creepy things. When he, among other things, pleaded guilty to “charges of distribution and receipt of child pornography and traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.”

According to Reuters, he’s contending his 2015 plea, saying that it was based on an illegal conspiracy charge.

Fogle says the plea was unlawful as a result, arguing the “charge of conspiracy” was not (at least at the time?) covered under federal law in regards to sexual misconduct involving minors.

Fogle was sentenced in November 2015 after he pleaded guilty to paying for sex with underage girls and receiving child pornography from Russell Taylor, the former executive director of The Jared Foundation, an organization which raised funds and awareness to combat childhood obesity.

The case is Fogle v Walton-Pratt et al, U.S. District Court, District of Colorado, No. 18-00704.

Fogle is also claiming he was pressured into pleading guilty in the whole case, and wants his plea withdrawn from court.  He accuses the prosecution of “tinkering” with a charge to “create crime” and force him to plead guilty or risk being forced into bankruptcy.  He also blames his “high priced” legal team for allegedly forcing him to plead guilty.

Here’s the bad thing… people have gotten off with less! This (alleged) creep might really stand a chance of being released.
