Giuliani Warns Trump Not To Talk To Mueller’s Team Because He Believes The Investigation Is Rigged
According to Slate, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani had a wide-ranging interview with CNN on Sunday in which the man who is now President Donald Trump’s lead defense attorney talked about a lot of issues surrounding Robert Mueller’s investigation. The special counsel’s work, Giuliani said, amounts to a “rigged investigation.” When CNN’s Dana Bash outright asked Giuliani whether he thinks the Mueller investigation is legitimate, Giuliani said no. “Not anymore, I don’t,” Giuliani said. “I did when I came in. But now I see—I see spy gate.”
Giuliani sat down with Fox News and told them the investigation is focusing on “things that didn’t happen” — including members of the Trump presidential campaign allegedly colluding with Russia to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential race and Trump illegally interfering with the probe.
“You’ve got a focus of no Russia collusion, no obstruction of justice,” Giuliani said.
Trump critics say the president obstructed justice by firing FBI Director James Comey.
Trump fired Comey in May 2017, saying he’d lost confidence in Comey’s ability to manage the FBI, including how he handled the federal investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of private email servers while secretary of state.
As Written On The Hill:
Giuliani once again said he won’t allow Trump to take part in a sit-down that could be a “trap for perjury,” but provided mixed signals as to whether or not Trump will ultimately participate in an interview with Mueller.
“I mean, the reality is, we’re not going to sit him down if this is a trap for perjury,” Giuliani told Fox.
“He wants to explain that he did nothing wrong. It’s us, the lawyers, who have to convince him that this is a trap,” he added.
Echoing Trump, Giuliani said the investigation has been “rigged” against Trump.
Still, he said Trump won’t fire anyone to end the probe, for fear of comparisons to the Nixon-era Watergate scandal.
“They’re the people who have committed the crimes,” he said, referring to the FBI.
