With the long-awaited FISA report expected to be released next month, it is expected to be a bombshell dropped and it’s only supposed to be the tip of the iceberg.
For those unfamiliar, this would detail a lengthy and thorough investigation into the “SpyGate” scandal, in which the FBI, under the Obama administration, was thought to have abused the process for issuing certain types of warrants in order to “spy” on the 2016 Trump campaign.
According to The Washington Examiner,
The investigation began in March 2018 after the House Intelligence Committee, which at the time was led by Republicans, released a memo outlining allegations that DOJ and FBI officials misled the FISA court to target Trump’s campaign. Democrats put together a rebuttal memo that defended the actions of the DOJ and the FBI.
Republicans believe Horowitz’s report will reveal overreliance on an unverified dossier compiled by British ex-spy Christopher Steele to obtain warrants to monitor onetime Trump campaign adviser Carter Page electronically. Some have even predicted indictments and prison time for officials who signed off on the warrants.
Democrats, as well as current and former FBI officials, have dismissed allegations of wrongdoing and have raised concerns that information about U.S. intelligence-gathering could be leveraged to discredit former special counsel Robert Mueller.
President Trump also spoke with Fox and Friends via phone and shared a little bit about the report:
“You have a FISA report coming out which the word is, it’s historic. That’s what the word is. That’s what I hear and if it’s historic you will see something. Perhaps even, more importantly, you have Durham coming out shortly after. He is the U.S. Attorney and he has already announced it is criminal, and we’ll see what happens. But I’ll tell you what, you have a lot of very, very bad people. You know a lot of people say Deep State. I don’t like to use the word Deep State. I say they’re really bad, sick people.”
