Democrats in the Senate are concerned because Biden’s administration has committed yet another misstep.
Rather than thoroughly reviewing Supreme Court nominees, Biden’s team simply checked the boxes and nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.
Senator Durbin’s decision to keep Jackson’s paperwork hidden implies that the White House didn’t think things through before announcing her appointment.
Biden and his merry band of misfits also didn’t do a good job of preparing her for the hearing. Hawley spoke with KBJ privately prior to the meeting and advised her that he would ask her about seven cases.
According to sources, two anonymous Democratic senators are dissatisfied with Jackson’s unwillingness to face GOP cross-examination.
“The damage had already been done,” one Democrat Senator admitted.
Meanwhile, Durbin is refusing to release documents to the public.
“The notion of making those pre-sentencing reports available for this political environment and potentially available for public consumption, would be reprehensible and dangerous. These reports contain sensitive information about innocent third parties and victims and children, for God’s sake. Why the Republicans and Ted Cruz have insisted on poring through these now to build their specious case against [Jackson], I don’t know. I’m gonna fight every step of the way,” Durbin said.
If KBJ’s record wasn’t a problem they would release the records, the Democrats are definitely hiding something.
Senator Ted Cruz is hoping Durbin releases the records and won’t rule out the GOP filibustering the Committee vote until the records are made public.
“I’m not sure what the procedural next steps are. The reasonable step for the committee to take is to produce the information,” Cruz said. “[Jackson] said we don’t have enough information to understand the cases. That’s what her answer was under sworn testimony. If that’s the case, then the responsible thing for the committee to do is review the probation reports.”
