One of the cities that receive a significant portion of the damage last summer during the riots was Portland, Oregon.
We all know that at this point in the mess, it has nothing to do with black lives actually mattering anymore. They aren’t out to get justice or to eliminate racism. That’s not why we’re continuing to see violence in Portland.
What the violence has mostly been caused by is a pure desire by Antifa to act ruthlessly and to break the law in the name of “anti-fascism”.
These acts of violence have almost entirely gone unchecked and unpunished. The Mayor of Portland, Ted Wheeler, has placated to this group that doesn’t even exist, allowing them to hold the city hostage and ruin lives and businesses. They have even attacked him personally on multiple occasions.
Finally, it looks like Wheeler is fed up with their crap and now he’s demanding an end to these “protests” and violence.
“For nearly nine months protesters have called for police reform and an end to systemic racism in Portland, which has become a key city in the country’s racial reckoning,” the Associated Press reported. “While officials say many events have been peaceful, there continues to be small groups smashing windows of businesses, threatening community members, and assaulting police.”
“The community is sick and tired of people engaging in criminal destruction and violence and doing it under the guise of some noble cause,” Wheeler said, forcefully, during the conference Monday.
“The people who work here support the voices of racial and social justice and will not be intimidated from doing our jobs by the ugly graffiti or broken windows,” said Scott Erik Asphaug, U.S. attorney for the District of Oregon added, per the AP. “We do not confuse the voices of the many with the shouts of the few who hope to hold our city hostage by petty crime and violence.”
He should have let President Trump help. If he would have, this mess would have been over a long time ago, but instead he wanted to try and act tough.
