Democrats in Congress are introducing legislation to abolish the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. No joke!
The bill from Wisconsin Rep. Mark Pocan, a Democratic leader of the progressive caucus, would give Congress a year to develop a more “humane immigration enforcement system” and terminate ICE.
Speaker of The House Paul Ryan said it best: “They really jumped the sharks on the left … It’s amazing,” Ryan told reporters at his weekly press conference in the Capitol. “You want to do away with immigration and customs enforcement? This is the agency that pulls out gangs of our communities that help prevent drugs from entering our schools and saving people from trafficking.”
Ryan argued that voting to abolish ICE is an extreme position that will scare off voters in the November elections.
“You want to get rid of this agency? It’s the craziest position I’ve ever seen and they stumble over themselves to move too far to the left,” Ryan added. “They are outside the mainstream of the US, and that’s one of the reasons I feel very comfortable this fall.”
As Reported By The Hill:
A group of Democrats who introduced legislation to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said they will vote against the measure if GOP leadership follows through with their vow to bring it to the House floor.
Reps. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.), Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) and Adriano Espaillat(D-N.Y.) released a statement Thursday accusing GOP leaders of exploiting the legislation for political gain after leadership confirmed it planned to hold a vote.
Wow… talk about flip-flopping! How can Democrats introduce a bill to abolish the very agency that cleans the American streets of illegal criminals and then not back up their own bill? It sounds like they don’t want to go on record for voting to abolish ICE.
