A fifth-grade student made a decision last week that will haunt him for the rest of his life.
The 10-year-old Patriot Elementary School student in Cape Coral, Florida, threatened to carry out his own mass shooting.
Despite the fact that there was no real substance to the threat and that it was made empty-handedly, he still and committed a crime. As a result, he was arrested and treated like a criminal.
“This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. “Making sure our children are safe is paramount. We will have law and order in our schools! My team didn’t hesitate one second…NOT ONE SECOND, to investigate this threat.”
“Right now is not the time to act like a little delinquent,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. “It’s not funny. This child made a fake threat, and now he’s experiencing real consequences.”
According to Fox News,
A 10-year-old fifth-grade Florida boy was arrested Saturday and charged with making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting, according to police.
When the juvenile suspect, a student at Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral, Florida, allegedly sent the threatening text, the School Threat Enforcement Team was immediately notified and began analytical research, police said.
The Youth Services Criminal Investigations Division assumed the case due to the age of the child. Police arrested the boy after detectives interviewed him and determined probable cause for his arrest.
This is the way it should be handled. I know that this was a 10-year-old and it was a stupid threat that wasn’t amounting to anything, but the timing was appropriate and the action was appropriate.
I feel bad for the kid, but you can’t send a stupid text message threatening to carry out a mass shooting…PERIOD! And right now, police are on high alert to begin with, so you know they’re no going to mess around.
This kid may never own a firearm for his entire life now as a result of this stunt. You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.
