The net worth of Elon Musk, the richest man in the world just topped $300 billion over the weekend.
There has been an ongoing “battle” between Musk and Jeff Bezos for the top spot as the richest man in the world and it’ll likely continue going back and forth for years to come as both continue to go after bigger and better things.
Musk is one of my favorite people. I don’t think he’s the greatest guy in the world, but he’s smart, interesting, and honest and he certainly doesn’t mind helping people out.
Recently, the director of the UN’s World Food Program said that $6 billion from the billionaires could solve world hunger.
The world needs to wake up. We’ve got a global humanitarian crisis on our hands that is spiraling out of control. 42M people in 43 countries face famine NOW.
All we need is $6.6B—just .36% of the top 400 US billionaires' net worth increase last year. Is that too much to ask?? pic.twitter.com/YMD7zuPwsf

This is quite a statement and Elon Musk didn’t balk. He tweeted, “If WFP can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6B will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it.”
Then he tweeted, “But it must be open source accounting, so the public sees precisely how the money is spent.”

What a guy, right? If all it takes to solve world hunger is $6 billion, he’s up for it! This is why we need billionaires like him because our government isn’t going to fix anything. No government is.
I think this guy was going to try and point out the greed, but he got called on his bluff.
Please publish your current & proposed spending in detail so people can see exactly where money goes.
Sunlight is a wonderful thing.

In response, David Beasley tweeted,
.@elonmusk Instead of tweets, allow me to show you. We can meet anywhere—Earth or space—but I suggest in the field where you can see @WFP’s people, processes and yes, technology, at work. I will bring the plan, and open books.

I don’t think the UN needs to be involved in this at all given Musk’s resources and abilities. He could probably do it much better without them. Maybe this is the next big step for Elon Musk?
