In general, we’ve never been enamored with Starbucks as a company. Maybe it’s the high price of a cup of “good old Joe”. But regardless of the price for a normal cup of hot coffee, Starbucks adheres to a more liberal political ideology.
It just seems like it’s unacceptable for these companies to stick their noses into an American’s political beliefs. Well, it appears that beyond the Starbucks hierarchy’s having an urge to make politically motivated statements; some employees have a few tricks that may surprise you.
We suppose everyone has heard a horrifying tale of a restaurant waiter or cook exorcising revenge on a sourpuss customer. But according to one former barista from England, Starbucks employees have perfected customer paybacks to the point of a cute art form.
Some of these methods for retribution seem innocent enough, we suppose. But knowing a caffeine-craving person personally, one trick may be more serious than you realize. Some people get excruciating headaches when they are deprived of their regular dose of caffeine.
So, giving a gnarly customer a blast of decaffeinated coffee when they’re counting on the high-octane stuff could produce consequences. But that’s one of many little tricks that this now retired English barista says he’s witnessed with his own two eyes.
Shabaz Ali took to TikTok to tell his tales of caffeine chicanery. The 28-year-old sort of “spilled the coffee beans” on some odd ways of dishing out payback to abusive or rude customers. Ali said his bosses even had their own list of little annoyances.
Ali said he was frequently told to misspell customer’s names on purpose. Evidently, this was some sort of publicity stunt, but we’re not sure how. The now retired barista also said the company’s famous Frappuccino actually contained fake-flavored syrup, not real coffee beans.
Ali shared other cheerful little details. Since Starbucks discards old pastries, they often divert them to homeless shelters. The former employee also stressed that most of the little tricks were innocent enough. For example, no one was ever rumored to have spit in a customer’s hot latte.

We can’t say so much for the horror stories about various American-based fast food franchises. Nevertheless, it was interesting to hear a few behind-the-scenes stories about the popular coffee franchise. But just to be on the safe side, we think we’ll stick with black and add our own cream.
