Fox News made the surprise announcement that co-hosts of the network’s afternoon show The Five, Kimberly Guilfoyle is leaving the news network. This comes amidst speculation that the parting was not Guilfoyle’s choice.
According to reports, Guilfoyle was replaced just one hour prior to The Five going on-air. When the show went on air, Katie Pavlich took her seat, but there was no mention of Guilfoyle nor was any on-air statement made. How strange it must be to leave your place of employment after working there for twelve years without even a good-bye.
Reports of 49-year-old’s impending departure swirled for hours on Friday as Fox News publicists remained silent. Late in the day, a Fox News spokesperson released a short, terse statement to the media simply stating – “FOX News has parted ways with Kimberly Guilfoyle.”
The reason for her departure remains unclear.
Page Six reports of the strange turn of events –
“In the months before she left, we hear, network staffers had grown tired of the drama and publicity surrounding her high-profile relationships — first with Anthony Scaramucci and then Donald Trump Jr. Sources said that in recent weeks, colleagues were complaining about having to deal with a disproportionate amount of work generated by Guilfoyle.
Reports have said she’ll join Trump Jr. on the campaign trail and that she has joined pro-Trump super PAC America First.”
Meanwhile, Yashar Ali of the Huffington Post reported that according to three sources familiar with the matter, Guilfoyle did not leave Fox News voluntarily.
Guilfoyle is a former prosecutor for in San Francisco and Los Angeles. She is also known as the former wife of California politician Gavin Newsom and was First Lady of San Francisco during Newsom’s first two years as mayor of that city. Newsom is currently serving as California’s Lt. Governor and is running as the Democratic candidate in the upcoming election to replace current Governor Jerry Brown for the state.
Guilfoyle joined Fox News in February 2006, as host of the weekend show, The Lineup. The Lineup was eventually canceled but Guilfoyle remained a regular contributor for the network. She was later chosen to be as co-host of The Five, in 2011. She has remained a host on the show ever since. In 2014, she began co-hosting Outnumbered regularly, until the show settled on more permanent hosts. She also appeared weekly on The O’Reilly Factor’s recurring segment “Is it Legal?” until the show’s cancellation in 2017, as well as a weekly Thursday guest on Brian Kilmeade’s Kilmeade and Friends radio show.
