21-year-old Lucas Gerhard has had his life stolen away from him and all over an innocent post that he shared on Instagram.
Gerhard was an Eagle scout without any sort of criminal record. He’s at the point in his life where he should be finishing up college and finding a career for himself.
Instead, Gerhard is holed up in his parents’ basement with an ankle bracelet so the authorities can monitor his every movement.
Lucas became the target of two female leftists at his alma mater, Lake Superior State University. One of the students often argued with Gerhard about his conservative views.
A series of events that appear to amount to harassment by the women culminated in his arrest. After having his car window smashed, being harassed online, and becoming the victim of anonymous calls to campus police, Gerhard blocked the woman with whom he often feuded from his social media accounts.
The woman and her trolling partner found an image from Lucas’s Snapchat that he’d shared privately with friends and took a screenshot. The image showed an AR-15 and other gear with text reading, “…this outta make the snowflakes melt.” He was soon visited by local police and spent nearly three months in jail before being sentenced to house arrest.
It gets worse…
Big League Politics reported,
Despite the judge commenting positively on Gerhard’s demeanor and complimenting the young man for his composure while facing the charges, Gerhard was ultimately kept on a tether because of highly irregular behavior from the prosecution. They inexplicably produced a video of a Mosque shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand from 2019 and played it in the courtroom for several minutes to bias the proceedings.
“As a Marine, I’ve been exposed to some incredibly traumatic events [to include combat], and even so, it was entirely sickening watching the violent video. It was one of the most horrifying things I’ve ever seen in my life. The point of a tether is to prevent someone from fleeing bond. How the prosecutor was allowed to play this for seven or eight minutes, without any real contextual value linking the reasoning as to why Lucas should remain tethered, was both mystifying and disturbing,” Col. Gerhard said to Big League Politics.
“I feel it was borderline unethical and certainly inappropriate for the prosecutor to introduce something so inflammatory, knowing full well the Judge would not know the basis of how and where it was derived from,” he added.
His formerly bright future in criminal justice hangs in the balance.
