George Walker Bush is 75 years old. When he became only the second son of a former U.S. President to be elected to the White House, “W” was 54 years of age. While he may not be every American’s favorite president, as the 43rd to hold the office, Bush did a commendable job.
Much of his two-term presidency was clouded by the horrific attack on American soil on September 11, 2001. Regardless of how political experts viewed his eight years’ worth of decisions, never did anyone blame a blunder on Bush’s cognitive awareness.
Some expressed concern about his overall intelligence, or lack thereof. But after spending most of his presidential tenure in his mid to late 50s and into his early 60s, Bush was usually considered competent enough to handle the job.
As George W. Bush has aged, like most people, his tendency to misspeak has increased over time. It’s nothing that should be made fun of. But it is a reality of aging. However, George W. Bush is no longer the leader of the free world.
He is a former president. Understandable gaffes are more excusable because they have a low probability of threatening the security of our nation. That’s not the case when you’re “the man in the Oval Office.” This critical responsibility now belongs to Joe Biden.
But today, Joe Biden is four years older than former President George W. Bush. So, when “W” makes a gaffe, it’s only second-tier newsworthy. When Biden spews out one of his trademark blunders, it has the potential to threaten international relations and global security.
An important aspect of this natural aging process is the ability to admit when we’ve lost a step. Biden, certainly on instruction from his handlers, insists he’s “sharp as a tack.” Listening to him fumble through a teleprompter-guided speech proves otherwise.
The other day, the 75-year-old former President Bush made a minor gaffe. He was asked a question about Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Many Twitter users made fun of Bush’s comment. There really isn’t anything funny about the effects of old age.
Bush said. “Political opponents are imprisoned or otherwise eliminated from participating in the electoral process. The result is an absence of checks and balances in Russia and the decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq. I mean, of Ukraine.”
But in his defense, Bush quickly caught his error and applied sound reasoning for his misspoken words. “Anyway, 75,” he added. The former two-term Commander-in-Chief was referring to his age. He understands the reality of the situation.
Despite some news pundits jumping on the story, it’s basically meaningless. But is it? Anyone who has compared the 43rd U.S. President to the 46th has to be alarmed. The evidence of cognitive decline is obvious in both men. Again, it’s not funny, it’s sad.
But one of them is not the President of the United States. One of them is a man who may misspeak because of his age, but he has enough common sense to admit his folly. The other is entrusted with governing the most powerful nation in the world.
When Joe Biden fumbles and bumbles through a speech, he makes comments that not only baffle listeners but threaten the national security of the U.S. Joe Biden is a walking, talking buffoon. Americans are witnessing this with their own eyes.
He is dangerous. While a former president makes an “eye-catching gaffe”, the sitting president continues to embarrass himself and our nation. Joe Biden’s incompetent ineptitude has America staring at the prospects of a global conflict.
On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, Americans will have an opportunity to render Joe Biden an ineffective president. Republican control of Congress will drastically curtail his ability to harm our country. Less than two weeks later, Biden will be 80 years old. Things can only get worse.
