ISIS Claims Responsibility For Hostage Situation In Melbourne

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the hostage situation in Melbourne, Australia that happened earlier today.

Police shot the suspect deal just before 6pm after he emerged from an apartment where he was holding a woman hostage.

Before being killed by police, the man reportedly fired his weapon, injuring three officers in the process.

The Herald Sun reports that a man’s body was found in the foyer of the apartment building where the incident took place.

A woman who was held hostage by the gunman in the apartment building has reportedly been set free.

“The attack in Melbourne, Australia was carried out by a soldier of the Islamic State in response to the call for targeting the subjects of the coalition states,” the outlet quotes the terror group’s Amaq news agency as saying in a statement.

Previous reports had suggested that the gunman called a local news station during the hostage incident and told them “this is for ISIS. This is for Al Qaeda.”

Foreign News Desk editor-in-chief Lisa Daftari subsequently reported that the gunman had been identified as one Yacqub Khayre.
