John Kelly says Marijuana Is Not a Factor in the Drug War

So this past weekend on Meet The Press John Kelly, Secretary of Homeland Security, stated that marijuana was, in fact, not a factor in the drug war and that solving the nation’s drug problem does not involve “arresting a lot of users.”

TODD: these Central American countries is the idea of, for instance, marijuana legalization, does that help your problem or hurt your problem?

KELLY: Yeah, marijuana is not a factor in the drug war.

TODD: This really is a cocaine, and in some cases the opioid, sort of, copycats?

Kelly said the solution is to lower demand in the United States.

“The solution is not arresting a lot of users,” he said.

“The solution is a comprehensive drug demand reduction program in the United States that involves every man and woman of goodwill. And then rehabilitation. And then law enforcement. And then getting at the poppy fields and the coca fields in the south.”
