According to recent reports, the illustrious manufacturer of tractors and other industrial vehicles, John Deere, is in the process of relocating a portion of its operations from Iowa to Mexico.
This is exactly the kind of stuff that prompted millions of Americans to vote for Trump in 2016, and now we see it occurring again, which is really concerning.
How many jobs in the United States will be lost as a result of this?
According to Breitbart,
John Deere has confirmed it will move part of its Tractor and Cab Assembly Operations facility in Waterloo, Iowa, to Mexico by the 2024 fiscal year.
While the machinery manufacturer plans on bringing new manufacturing products to the Waterloo plant, in a statement provided to Breitbart News, a Deere and Co. spokesman confirmed their intentions to ship part of their operations to Mexico…
There are “approximately 1,100 people” employed at the Waterloo facility, KWWI reported. 2020 U.S. Census data indicates that Waterloo has a population of over 67,000 residents.
Tim Frickson, president of the United Auto Workers Local 838 union, expressed his concerns over the prospect of some employees having their jobs potentially offshored. “We don’t want to see the jobs leave the Waterloo area, we don’t want to see the jobs leave the U.S.,” Frickson told KWWI.
Over 10,000 John Deere workers from 14 different sites went on strike in October 2021, requesting that the machinery maker give them the opportunity to earn a good living, retire with dignity, and adopt fair work regulations.
After striking workers and John Deere management struck a “collective agreement,” the strike ended a month later. According to the Agence France-Presse (AFP), “the pact includes a $8,500 signing bonus; a 20 percent boost in salaries over the life of the contract, with a 10% increase this year,’ increased retirement possibilities, and better performance benefits,” according to the UAW.
According to the union, 61 percent of people voted in favor of the new deal, while 39 percent voted against it.
It looks like things are going back to the old ways of America being last and shipping all of labor to other countries.
