Madison Cawthorn’s Political Career May Have Come to an Abrupt End

Madison Cawthorn, a member of the House of Representatives, recently made some serious accusations against other members of Congress.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy was called in to deal with the problem because of his strong views.

Cawthorn stated on a podcast,

“The sexual perversion that goes on in Washington. I mean, being kind of a young guy in Washington, where the average age is probably 60 or 70 – [you] look at all these people, a lot of them that I’ve looked up to through my life, I’ve always paid attention to politics.”

“Then all of a sudden you get invited: ‘We’re going to have a sexual get-together at one of our homes, you should come. What did you just ask me to come to? And then you realize they’re asking you to come to an 0rgy,” he added.

These are some serious accusations and immediately people were suspicious of them.

Well, after talking with Rep. McCarthy, Cawthorn has admitted that he may have embellished the facts just a little bit.

According to Axios,

McCarthy said Cawthorn conceded some of his remarks were untrue and “exaggerated.”

“I just told him he’s lost my trust, he’s gonna have to earn it back, and I laid out everything I find is unbecoming. And, you can’t just say, ‘You can’t do this again.’ I mean, he’s got a lot of members very upset,” McCarthy said. “In the interview, he claims he watched people do cocaine. Then when he comes in, he tells me, he says he thinks he saw maybe a staffer in a parking garage from 100 yards away.”

“It’s just frustrating. There’s no evidence behind his statements,” McCarthy continued. “And when I sit down with him … I told him you can’t make statements like that, as a member of Congress, that affects everybody else and the country as a whole.”

Cawthorn doesn’t concern me one way or the other. I simply don’t know enough about him to make an informed decision. I will say, though, that I feel he has harmed his chances of securing another term. He’ll be accused of being a liar who wrongly accused people of sexual promiscuity and drug usage, and it’ll very certainly work against him whether it comes from a primary opponent or a general election opponent in November.
