Mom Stops Man From Stealing Her Car With Kids Inside – Second Amendment In Action

It looks like the Lonestar State slogan should be “you don’t mess with Texas-moms”! One Dallas mother stopped an alleged carjacking and would-be kidnapper in his tracks with a single shot to the head.

Michelle Booker-Hicks was paying for her gas at a Shell station when she saw the man, Ricky Wright, 36, jump in her car where Booker-Hicks’ small children were waiting for her to return. The mom says she quickly rushed out and jumped in the backseat as Wright drove away.

Michelle managed to crawl into the front passenger seat and order Write to stop but when he refused, police say the mother reached into the glovebox and pulled out her handgun. She then shot the would-be kidnapper, once, in the head and the vehicle crashed into a telephone pole.

Mom and her two sons, ages 2 and 4, were not injured in the wreck.

The suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital. No word yet on the current condition of Wright, but reports show that when last checked he was still alive. Police say if he survives he will likely face charges of kidnapping and robbery.

As Reported By Texas Fox 4:

Attorney Toby Shook is not involved in the case. He says it’s unlikely Booker-Hicks would face charges for leaving her kids in the car or for choosing to shoot Wright.

“When children are involved, obviously the authorities are going to be very understanding of that,” Shook said. “The law says that if a reasonable person in her situation would have acted the same way, found it immediately necessary to protect herself or a third party, in this case her children, then that’s legitimate self-defense.”

Booker-Hicks says she just recently got the gun to defend herself but didn’t think she’d be using it just hours later. She doesn’t have a license to carry. However, police say Texas state law allows people to carry guns inside their car even without a license.
