Pandemic May Have Had CRIPPLING Effect on Flu Virus

I have a very close friend who contracted ȻOVID early last week. To be very honest, he’s having a very rough time.

To make matters worse, it seems that he passed it on to more than a dozen others before he knew he was positive for the virus.

They’ve been monitoring his oxygen saturation from home, getting him vitamins, and just trying to keep him…well…in battle.

He’s experiencing all of the symptoms including loss of taste and smell, and these past few days have been the worst so far.

As bad as this virus is, there may be a silver lining to this whole pandemic…

“Scientists say that two common strains of the seasonal flu have seemingly vanished from circulation, likely due to public health measures like mask-wearing meant to slow the covid-19 pandemic,” Gizmodo reported. “Though it will take time to confirm the disappearing act, the unexpected good news could make developing next season’s flu shot all the easier.”

“There’s just no flu circulating,” Greg Poland, who has studied the disease at the Mayo Clinic for decades, told Scientific America. “The U.S. saw about 600 deaths from influenza during the 2020–2021 flu season. In comparison, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated there were roughly 22,000 deaths in the prior season and 34,000 two seasons ago.”

USA Today, however, questioned Poland’s assessment in a fact check. CDC public affairs specialist Kate Grusich noted that his judgment was based on two different types of data. One is a statistical model used to estimate cases, and the other is surveillance data that tracks the flu’s progression on a weekly basis. With everyone on lockdown, the Centers for Disease Control didn’t have enough data to estimate flu cases. So the Mayo Clinic scientist’s idea that the flu just wasn’t circulating may not be accurate. We’re wondering when we can get real information from those who tell us to “follow the science.”
