The GBU-43/B, or Massive Ordnance Air Blast, or Mother Of All Bombs, or MOAB… is said to be the largest based bomb ever created. However, Russia is said to have tested it’s own “largest bomb” back in 2007. The “Aviation Thermobaric Bomb of Increased Power” (what?), or “Father of all bombs” was developed the same year and of course claims are made that it eclipses the US’s latest toy.
Watch the video. If true, ours is still more powerful in terms of effectiveness. Our 11 ton-yield hits a 150 meter area while their “44 ton-yield” only does 300 meters. 150 meters for 11 ton-yield or 300 for 44? Come on… Anyway….
Supposedly it can inflict a 44 ton-yield when detonated, compared to the 11-ton-yield of the mother. Unlike its US counterpart though it’s less hefty, weighing in at 7,100kg compared to 8,200kg.
The “Father of all bombs” explodes in mid-air and combines with atmospheric oxygen. This extends the blast radius quite a bit and creates more damage, vaporizing it’s target and most surrounding structures.
Alexander Rukshin, a deputy chief of the Russian armed forces, said at the time it showed “its effectiveness and capabilities are comparable to nuclear weapons. At the same time use of this weapon does not damage or pollute the environment, like a nuclear weapons.”
“Its effectiveness and capabilities are comparable to nuclear weapons,” deputy chief of the Russian armed forces Alexander Rukshin — who sounds like a totally reliable source — claimed. “At the same time use of this weapon does not damage or pollute the environment, like a [sic] nuclear weapons.”
So what do you think? Do you believe’em ?
