Paul Ryan seemingly took up for President Donald Trump during his weekly press briefing on Thursday when asked about James Comey’s assertion that the POTUS “asked for his loyalty”. Leaving House Speaker Ryan to say that the president is “new to this” — and not familiar with White House-FBI Protocol.
Ryan said, “I would just say that of course there needs to be a degree of independence between DoJ, FBI and the White House, and a line of communication that’s established. The President is new at this. He’s new to government. So he probably wasn’t steeped in the long-running protocols that establish the relationships between DoJ, FBI and White Houses.”
He’s just new to this. So I think — what I got out of that testimony is we now know why he was so frustrated when the FBI Director told him three times there’s no investigation of him, yet that speculation was allowed to continue. So obviously we know now why he was so frustrated.”
I get that. It’s been stated before that Trump was using New York-based lingo when talking to Comey. I agree with that.
