If you have been paying attention over the last 6 months, then this really shouldn’t take you by surprise.
Kamala Harris is a nasty person and she’s demonstrated this time and time again.
All you have to do is see how condescending she is toward journalists and know that this is how she is and it would carry over into the rest of her dealings with people. She’s got a chip on her shoulder and is holier than thou art.
It should come as no surprise that current and former staffers are complaining that the cackling VP heads a toxic workplace.
The atmosphere in Harris’s office is an unhealthy one. There’s a lack of trust, fueled, in part, by chief-of-staff Tina Flournoy’s decision to keep her boss’s eventual trip to the border hidden from other staffers.
Tempers are hot here, and the general perception is that Flournoy ignores subordinates’ input. She is also said to blame underlings for anything that goes wrong. Harris is also viewed as part of the problem for allowing such negativity to affect workplace morale.
This doesn’t appear to be your everyday unhappiness; workers feel as if they’re being thrown under the bus and even treated “like s**t.”
“People are thrown under the bus from the very top, there are short fuses and it’s an abusive environment,” one person with knowledge of operations at Harris’ office told the outlet. “It’s not a healthy environment and people often feel mistreated. It’s not a place where people feel supported but a place where people feel treated like s**t.”
Symone Sanders, Harris’ top spokesperson, pushed back on allegations of discord on the vice president’s staff.
“We are not making rainbows and bunnies all day. What I hear is that people have hard jobs and I’m like ‘welcome to the club,’” Sanders told Politico. “We have created a culture where people, if there is anything anyone would like to raise, there are avenues for them to do so. Whoever has something they would like to raise, they should raise it directly.”
The vice president’s office did not respond to a request for further comment.
It isn’t surprising that the VP’s office is such a venomous place given Biden’s reputation for having a bad temper and being short with staffers. And, yes, this is the same man who insisted on the day of his inauguration that anyone who disrespected others would be fired immediately.
