A recently leaked video from January 6, 2021 shows Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, threatening to physically harm President Trump.
The video was released on Thursday during the House committee hearings on January 6 and was filmed by Pelosi’s daughter Alexandra Pelosi, a filmmaker. The clip was also broadcast in its entirety on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360.”
Trump was hosting a “Stop the Steal” event at the Ellipse, about two miles from the Capitol, when Pelosi made her remark.
The video opens with Terri McCullough, the chief of staff for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, explaining to Pelosi that the Secret Service has convinced President Trump not to join his supporters on Capitol Hill due to safety concerns. McCullough is shown expressing this to Pelosi.
Pelosi responded, “I hope he comes; I’m going to punch him out. I’ve been waiting for this, for trespassing on the Capitol grounds. I’m going to punch him out. And I’m going to jail, and I’m going to be happy.”
“It’s very dangerous, what he’s doing,” Pelosi added. “Tell him if he comes here, we’re going to the White House.”
Trump was ultimately prevented from joining the Capitol protestors in their protest.
Rep. Bennie Thompson opened the House committee hearing on Thursday by saying, “What Donald Trump proceeded to do after the 2020 election is something no president has done before in our country.”
Thompson also alleged that Trump was preparing to “attack a pillar of our democracy” with his remarks regarding the rigged election, calling it a “staggering betrayal of his oath.”
“It’s still hard to believe,” Thompson said. “But the facts and testimony are clear, consistent, and undisputed.”
The decision to call Trump to testify under oath was made by the committee unanimously by the committee.
On social media, the former president commented on the vote asking, “Why didn’t the Unselect Committee ask me to testify months ago? Why did they wait until the very end, the final moments of their last meeting? Because the Committee is a total ‘BUST’ that has only served to further divide our Country which, by the way, is doing very badly.”
