I’m willing to bet that Democrats almost never look at what is actually inside pieces of legislation that are created by fellow Democrats. I would also say that it has been this way for decades.
Remember back when Barack Obama was in the White House and he was trying to get the “Affordable Care Act” aka Obamacare passed? I’ll never forget the moment Nancy Pelosi pleaded with Congress to get it passed:
“You’ve heard about the controversies, the process about the bill…but I don’t know if you’ve heard that it is legislation for the future – not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America,” she told the National Association of Counties annual legislative conference, which has drawn about 2,000 local officials to Washington. “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it– away from the fog of the controversy.”
It was a massive bill, and I know that members of Congress don’t actually read the bills. They have their staff read them for them and then probably just tell the members of Congress what it says. You don’t think that people like Nancy Pelosi actually do any work, do you?
She even defended her comments in a later interview on Meet the Press where she said that people will see what’s in the bill and that they’ll like it. Hmm…how did that turn out? It was partially ruled UNCONSTITUTIONAL! That’s how it turned out.
Well, fast forward to today and you have White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre doing the same exact thing today. She told CNN, “Let’s get this bill passed and then we’ll see how the mechanics and all of that’s gonna work.” She was speaking of the Inflation Reduction Act. This is the act where we print more money to bring down inflation. Makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?
Granted, she’s not a member of Congress, but it’s the same principle here. Basically, let’s pass this crap and see what happens
